Here’s That Rick Santorum Viral Video You’ve Been Waiting For

First off, people, can a couple of young women make an earnest, enthusiastic video for a candidate without half the internet calling them vile, hateful names? It takes courage to put yourself out there, and I for one salute First Love’s efforts (though I do wish their efforts were dedicated to a worthier candidate than Taliban Rick). And compared to most of these things, it’s a catchy little ditty.

But I would like to take issue with two curious lyrics in this song.

1. “Oh, there is hope for our nation again/Maybe the first time since we had Ronald Reagan”

So George W. Bush never existed? Sorry, First Love, but I think The Right Brothers would have to take you to task on that one. Don’t try to sweep crazy Uncle George under the carpet! He’s yours to keep. And while we’re at it, First Love, you two might want to read up on Ronald Reagan’s actual record, rather than taking Rick Sandorum’s word for it, because he is not actually the person you think he is. Reagan would be drummed out of the current Republican party as a RINO.

2. Faithful to his wife and seven kids/He’ll be loyal to our land

Really, First Love? The entire history of this great nation is a repudiation of the notion that marital fidelity is a prerequisite to success in politics (or business, sports, music, religion, etc.). And if you indeed believe this, you should be aware that the current resident of the White House has a stellar record on this front. Or does that not count because Obama doesn’t wear his fidelity like a sackcloth?
