Actually, amend that to don’t try to tell jokes to anyone with whom you do not share a common culture and language. Trust me on this. It will not translate. This is probably apocryphal, but someone once told me that they were at a conference in China and the speaker began with a joke and the translator translated it by saying, “The American is now telling a joke, so when he finishes speaking please laugh.”
