Five Other Things Martin Luther King Never Said

Yesterday, Facebook lit up with a quote in reference to the killing of Osama Bin Laden that was attributed to Martin Luther King, Jr.

“I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy.” – Martin Luther King, Jr

Turns out that Martin Luther King never said any such thing. Not surprisingly, this is far from the first time the great civil rights leader has been quoted incorrectly. In fact, here are five quotes that are widely attributed to Martin Luther King, Jr. that he never actually said.

1. I have a dream that one day we will live in a nation where men are not judged by the color of their skin but by the quality of their lawncare.

2. Ass, gas, or grass, nobody rides for free.

3. Obey your thirst . . . for justice!

4. They may take our lives, but they will never take our . . . window treatments.

5. Racial injustice — you’re soaking in it.
